  • Practical Lapland Travel Information
  • Muonio is the last large village with shopping options if headed North to Kilpisjarvi. You can also stop at Enontekio but this requires you to leave highway E8 and drive about 20 extra km. There is a pharmacy, 2 banks and several food stores in Muonio to choose from. The food stores (K Market and S Market also sell outdoor gear)
  • Depending on your travel schedule, Muonio can be a good place to base yourself if exploring the nearby area by your own transport, for example if you are headed into the Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park for day hiking or fishing, Muonio has a campground and local accommodation which may be suitable options if those inside the park are full, more expensive, or simply not to your liking.
  • The Äijäkoski rapids are a pleasant area to have a picnic or short rest break if passing through in summer time, however there is little else to see or do there. If your traveling time is limited, this is not a significant attraction.
