Also known as the Kolarinsaari Church, the
Old Church of Kolari is a unique square styled
wooden church built in 1819. It was designed by A.W. Arppe and its altarpiece - like many other historic
churches in northern Finland - was painted by J. Hedman.
Other notable historic churches in Lapland include the
Old Church of Sodankylä (Lapp Church), the
Nellim Wilderness Church, the
Pielpajärvi Wilderness Church, and the
Old Church of Kittilä.
